Coral Springs, Fla. — NIH Research & Consulting (NIHR) supports the mission and programs of LifeNet4Families (LifeNet) with an annual giving campaign and ongoing community awareness initiatives. LifeNet provides food and other basic necessities to individuals and families facing hardships, poverty or homelessness. LifeNet services include a community kitchen, emergency food pantry, bagged meals, mobile food delivery for seniors, social services, family counseling, job readiness programs, referrals, clothing, showers, emergency financial assistance, nursing exams and more.

“LifeNet is truly a safety net for those who have nowhere else to turn. NIHR has been a huge supporter and community partner. Robin and Cindy are major proponents for advocating for those less fortunate, especially in their own backyard. NIHR has been a generous financial supporter for years. NIHR also helps us forge relations with schools and commissioners, and greatly assists in generating mass awareness in the community. Robin and Cindy plan active meetup events and solicit volunteers, friends and family to donate and pack food and supplies to distribute to non-profit organizations in the community, including LifeNet. This is so effective for raising community awareness, and provides a way for families to get involved and introduce their children to issues facing our community. I’m looking at replicating their model and taking that to other LifeNet supporters. It’s a very powerful model!” says Meredith Tucker, past Chairwoman and current Board Treasurer, CPA, LifeNet4Families.

To celebrate #GivingTuesday on Nov. 28, NIHR is planning a major giving event with friends, family, staff members and volunteers to collect food and supplies for LifeNet families. #GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities in all 50 states and in countries around the world. Millions of people have come together to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.

“LifeNet4Families is the lifeblood of our community’s vulnerable population. They fulfill so many community needs with so little. You can show up there with nothing, not even a shirt, and leave with a meal, a shower, clothes and even an address so you can apply to a job. Who has taken for granted having an address? The food is the most basic part of it but having somewhere to go, someone to greet you, someone to care is as important as nourishment. So many families look to this organization for their box of food each week, their encouragement and their hope. I’m just so impressed with this organization, their staff and supporters. We couldn’t be more proud to be a partner,” says Robin Day, Principal Managing Partner, NIH Research and Consulting.

“We are honored to support LifeNet’s efforts and help others not just survive, but truly thrive. We will do whatever it takes,” says Cindy Kanstoroom, Principal Managing Partner, NIH Research and Consulting.

For over 30 years, LifeNet4Families has provided service to the hungry and homeless of Broward County. From the humble beginnings of distributing a few peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the homeless, to today’s provision of over 89,000 hot meals a year, LifeNet’s services have grown to meet demand. LifeNet4Families serves approximately 5,000 individuals and families annually in Broward County. In 2017, LifeNet distributed over 1.2 million pounds of food; 17,857 food boxes; 89,756 nutritious meals; 4,000 carry-away lunch packs; 117,411 bags of fresh produce; provided 300 children with backpacks and school supplies; provided 426 home deliveries for the sick and elderly; conducted 1,608 case management/ crisis intervention sessions; distributed 15,909 articles of clothing to homeless men and women; provided 5,887 showers and hygiene products. “We work with clients during their most vulnerable moments. Even when our dining room is closed, our kitchen is not. Snack packs are always available. We believe that food and nutrition are the essential first steps in helping a LifeNet family. In addition to balanced nutrition, we believe that “well-being” includes clean clothing, new haircuts, shower facilities for our clients to look and feel their best. And of course, health. We provide onsite nursing exams and routine testing that many of us take for granted. We also provide counseling, referrals, job readiness courses and programs to build relationships that equip, empower, and encourage self-reliance,” says Dr. Melanie Geddes, president and CEO, LifeNet4Families.

Headquartered in Coral Springs, NIHR is committed to philanthropy and supporting the community.
